If you are looking for a place to get away from it all, then look no further than Hahei, Mercury Bay, located on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. Hahei is a paradise of pink sand beaches and pristine waters surrounded by rocks and Maori Pa sites on both ends of the beach and a chain of islands. The first place to start is in the water, if you want to see the best Hahei has to offer. Sheltered from the rough sea to remote islands, Hahei is a safe family beach. If you like swimming in open water, keep your eyes open for local groups that meet regularly on the beach swimming. We welcome all visitors and local swimmersif you're lucky, you can find yourself swimming with the dolphins who visit the area from time to time.

The marine reserve is adjacent to a magical underwater world, with plenty of fish and other marine life, ideal for snorkeling, kayaking or want to stay dry, take a cruise on a glass bottom boat. There are several local entrepreneurs who can help with tools and equipment or take you on diving or sailing and kayaking.
The marine reserve is also home to the famousCathedral Cove, one of the most photographed places on the Coromandel Peninsula. Accessible only on foot or by water, this magnificent cathedral-like caves and spectacular surroundings are a "must visit" site.

With so much beautiful coastline, boating is a favorite pastime. You can launch your boat or from the beach in Hahei from Cooks Beach boat ramp just 10 minutes.

Nearby Hot Water Beach is one of those unique experiences for every visitor to the Coromandeldo. Surface of an underground river of hot water at Hot Water Beach and an hour on either side of low tide, tourists flock to the beach to dig their own spa in the sand. Easy to dig, carry a shovel or you can hire the General Store. Hot Water Beach also offers a number of serious actions surf for boogie boarders and surfers.

If all of these activities in the water you're hungry, start with good coffee and home made food from Hot Waves Cafe in Hot Water Beach. Whileyou're there, check out next door Moko Artspace. Full of contemporary NZ and Pacific art, this gallery features jewelry, design items, wall art and sculpture.

Or you can go back to Hahei and visit the famous Luna Cafe. Considered the best coffee in Hahei by locals, the Moon is known for its friendly service and relaxed atmosphere.

Hahei has its own micro-climate, perfect for growing fruits and vegetables, much of which ends up in a local restaurant kitchens. The Grange is acafe by day and by night, a brasserie specializes in local seafood and hearty meals and good for children, adults and children, fish and chips and pizza. A great way to lose a day at the beach!

If good food is more your style, then enjoy a delicious meal in the church. Housed in a renovated church, the establishment oozes character with high vaulted ceilings, arched windows and beautiful polished wood, surrounded by a lush indigenous garden.

After dinner, stretch your legsand go to the reserve Te Pare Point town south of Hahei Beach, the site of a PA occupied by Ngati Hei people. Or just relax on the beach and enjoy the beautiful scenery as the sun sets at Hahei.
