On March 7 the movie "The Cove" won an Oscar for best documentary. The documentary shows the massacre of thousands of dolphins every year as part of a unit of fishing that takes place in an isolated cove in Taiji, Japan. "The Cove" is a compelling story, after all, not to support a noble cause with the horrible injustice and a contrite hero showed a life of evil to save the dolphins?
If this sounds like a scenario for afiction thriller, it's because in more ways than one it is.
While the slaughter of dolphins in Taiji is very real, very Ric O'Barry past claims and the reasons behind the massacre of Taiji portrayed in "The Cove" is far from done. The film O'Barry as the original trainer "Flipper" turned anti-prison in 1970 after a dolphin on the TV series reported suicide in his arms.
Ricou Browning was the creator and producer of "Flipper." L 'Browning was not O'Barry and Flipper the dolphin which was the first. And according to Miami Seaquarium, Kathie's (Flipper's) death came at the end of a long illness, his death was not suicide.
Recently, in 1989, O'Barry continue to seek work in a structure of marine life. Since 1993, in an article in "Animal People" Captain Paul Watson wrote: "It 'was only after [Steve] Wynn O'Barry rejected the request for the establishment of a coach [1989], who criticized the O'BarryMirage. "
It is contradictory to past O'Barry mean "The Cove" The message is not valid? Of course not ... few could voluntarily ignore the brutal killing of one of the most beloved animals of the world, and this is exactly what the creators of "The Cove" for his confidence.
O'Barry and producer Louie Psihoyos hijacking the film a message to the days of not-so-hidden anti-zoo different from the real reasons behind the slaughter in Taiji promotion. "The Cove" conscious portrays a sinister link between the murders of Taiji and marine life parks in the United States that does not exist.
At 18:49 minutes into the film, O'Barry provides: "[Speaking of marine life parks] ... a billion dollar industry, and that captures all helped to create the largest slaughter of dolphins the planet. " Just then, we see the entrance to the Dolphin Cove, a marine park located in Key Largo, Florida. Ironically, Dolphin Cove in Key Largo has not> Dolphin slaughter in Taiji, nor has it ever. Dolphin Cove is not alone.
According to the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums, an association representing the major marine parks in the western hemisphere, none of their 44 members "have or to adopt animals from the driving [Taiji]." The fact is that the drive fishery in Taiji marine parks dating back almost 350 years. It 'started in 1606 as a fishing station the primary objective of dolphin meat, and laterwas a means of pest control. Why, then, "The Cove" claim that the massacre was carried out by marine parks?
Berkeley-based Earth Island Institute (EII) is behind the creation of "Cove. The" Over the past two decades, O'Barry acted as an accomplice of EII in their campaign to de facto control over marine zoo community, and the same control " certification that the EII for tuna industry with their advanced "Dolphin Safe" label. "The Cove" is O'Barry last EII and deception in this particular regime, only this time have provided a "Marine Park Dolphin Safe" label as "Oscar".
O'Barry and producers of "The Cove" for their moment of fame and EII also a toll on marine life parks in the process, but the results will not stop the dolphin slaughter in Taiji. As the evolution of awareness about the marine life of the United States, only education and changing values in the direction of> Dolphins and bring an end 350 years of hunting culture.
